A Double Big Ben

There have been plenty of delicious burgers sine the last post and I even had a souvlaki thing going on for a while but nothing has come close to the Doubled Up Big Ben from De Gusto.

Minimal greenery in the form of spinach, two mouth watering beef patties, bacon, caramelised onion, grilled  mushrooms & a special sauce. Walter from DeGusto is a modest, quiet sort of guy..  but he is a master chef on the grill.

My Burger of the year for 2017.

The Common Man Classic

The Friday after Australia Day was always going to be a quiet day in the office, so popping out to the Common Man pop-up to enjoy some summer sun was the order of the day.

The $19 lunch deal included a classic burger, side of salad and a pot of super dry. It was a pretty basic burger.. with pickles and mustard and quick melt cheese which made it look a bit something from the golden arches.

Alex was on a special No-Hahns super dry diet but still went the classic. It was a little too basic for the Kyneton’s Cricket Club President and he rued his decision of not going the Melbourne Burger and stopping by the Boatbuilders for a side salad.

Surprise of the day was #sk8 going for the Philly Cheese Steak. He was unimpressed and needed a follow up pint of fifty lashes to wash the disappointment away.

No tennis on the big screen, so we had to settle looking at Heather Locklear in Flirting At Forty followed by a bit of The Chase.

Grill’d at the Australian Open

It was a big day at the Australian Tennis Open which included a late lunch from the Grill’d food truck.

It was packed.. but the expectations were set early with the order queue being 9 minutes as was the collect queue.

It was a pretty warm wait with many distractions which helped make the time fly.

Grill’d were pretty spot on with their estimate.. however the drinks took a bit longer..

Me no complain. Always great to celebrate an occasion with a burger.

Extra points for the ground staff for handing out complimentary water to keep the masses hydrated.

The Bottle Of Milk in Torquay

My day at Torquay for the Danger 2500 would not be complete with out popping into The Bottle of Milk for some human fuel before making the big trip home.

The B.O.M

The B.O.M hit the spot.. A quality prime beef patty, tasty cheese, crispy bacon, a free range egg, lettuce, tomato, onion, beetroot, house mayo & relish. The bacon was special.

I needed a nana nap at Lara..

De Gusto Big Ben

De Gusto Burger of the week  this week was the Big Ben which was my 2015 Burger of the year.

To say I was excited would be an understatement. Walter is the Big Ben magician.

Grill’d Camberwell

Grill’d is a family favourite and they never disappoint.

And Princess went with the Nourish & Flourish which shows off the low-carb super bun with a grass-fed lean beef patty, avocado, Dijon mustard, pickle, shredded carrot, cos lettuce, tomato & egg mayo.

Pt Leo Longboard Burger

A post Pt Leo swim burger seemed like the a good idea.

But in retrospect maybe not after such a big feed yesterday.

Street Kitchen Co

Popped across the road to the Street Kitchen Co. for a quick lunch. The last time I was here it was called the Beanstalk. Their salad game has always been strong and now they have 10 different “streets of” burgers (and burrito variants) on the menu.

I tried the Streets of LA, 12 hour slow cooked smoked hickory beef ribs, caramelised onion, mushroom, cheese and a heap of lettuce. A very tasty burger.. I reckon I will be back to test out a couple more off the menu in the new year.

Customs House

Post Williamstown Open Water Swim burger from Customs House went down a treat.

The beef burger with bacon, egg , beetroot with a nice smattering of cheese and tomato relish.

#BurgerLove

Some things never change. #sk8 had a burger groupon to #burgerlove in St Kilda which was about to hit it’s expiry. Of course I could help out..

20161214_185919

Plenty of choice on the #burgerlove menu.. however the groupon was restricted to nothing over $10.

We both opted of the Juicy Gigi which had 2 beef patties, american cheddar, onion straws, pickles, jalapeños and plenty of #burgerlove and bbq sauce to run down your hands. It got messy.. can only imagine how messy it would get once you hit the mega burger range.

This place does serious burgers.
